Stage 2 of the Alberta government’s relaunch strategy has now been in effect for a week and the number of new COVID-19 cases is falling. However, SUM Ltd will continue to maintain the measures set in our workplace to prevent the spread of new cases within our community.
Since the beginning of Canada’s quarantine period in mid-March, we have taken special precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19 including:
- Cleaning and disinfecting frequently used surfaces and items (e.g. doorknobs, tables, tools)
- Maintaining social distancing protocols within the workplace
- Minimizing the number of non-critical meetings. Critical meetings are conducted within work rooms with appropriate distancing.
- Developing policies for all employees to wear masks and gloves at all times. Staff must wash their hands immediately after arriving to work and before leaving.
- Moving to paperless methods of communication, via email, text and apps.
- Putting work rotations in place to not only limit contact but distribute work and maintain employees’ mental wellbeing.
- Communicating regularly with staff members to alleviate stress (of the unknown) whenever possible
SUM Ltd has also observed a limited supply of personal protection equipment (PPE) within our communities. As skilled clothiers, seamstresses and tailors, we need to give back to the community and use our expertise to help replenish PPE supply. We have collaborated with Mask Makers YYC to sew face masks for general public use and will begin producing scrubs for medical use very soon.
SUM Ltd has had no instances of COVID-19 amongst our staff, but we will continue to monitor the health of our coworkers, both physically and mentally. We are fully supporting our employees that are not feeling well, have children at home, or need to take care of vulnerable loved ones.
SUM Ltd’s doors remain open for business and we continue to service our current clients. For more information on the measures SUM Ltd has in place, please see our COVID-19 announcement page.
